Typical price ranges

Minor repair

$150 to $450

Simple fixes such as a faucet, a supply line, toilet internals or a minor drain clog. Vanguard's Instant Estimator quotes this range for these fixes; the final price is confirmed in writing on site before work starts.

Moderate repair

$350 to $900

Mid-range work such as a water heater part like a heating element or gas valve, a garbage disposal, a fixture replacement or a problem on a branch line. This is the Instant Estimator's range for this level; you get the final price, confirmed in writing on site, before any work begins.

Major repair

$800 to $3,500

Larger jobs such as replacing the main shutoff valve or repiping a section of line. The Instant Estimator quotes this range for larger jobs, and the final price is confirmed in writing on site before the job begins.

What drives the price

Access
A pipe under a sink is quick to reach. One behind finished drywall, tile or a ceiling takes longer because the surface has to be opened to get to it.
Pipe material
Galvanized steel supply pipe and cast iron drains corrode from the inside and can be harder to tie into than copper or PEX. Joining different materials also calls for the right transition fittings.
Parts and fixtures
A cartridge or flapper costs little. A new faucet, toilet or disposal adds the price of the unit itself.
Shutoff valves
If a fixture stop or the main shutoff is seized, it may need replacing before the repair can be done safely.
Permits
Where a repair needs a permit and inspection, Vanguard handles it.

When a small leak becomes a bigger job

A drip under a sink is usually a minor repair. The price climbs when water has been running out of sight: a slow leak inside a wall or under a floor can corrode the pipe, soak the subfloor and hide a larger failure.

If you see a leak, close the fixture stop or the main valve and call early. Catching it sooner keeps more repairs in the lower ranges.

What a fair plumbing quote includes

The part, the labor, any permit that applies and a clear description of what is being fixed. If a quote does not spell those out, ask before you approve it.

Vanguard gives you a written price before any work starts, with no hidden fees. Repairs are handled by its own technicians under NJ Master Plumber license NJMPL 13344, not subcontractors. Ask when you book whether a diagnostic charge applies to your visit. Whole-house repiping is a larger project than the section repairs covered by these ranges.
